About this oil

It's a classic green Rumi from Al-Yamun, west of Jenin: a strong olive aroma, a fresh taste with a gentle bitterness, and a tangy finish that loves lemon and tomato. Mohammad Zein Al-Dein grows it by hand on mountain land and presses it in his family's own press.

Mohammad Zein Al-Dein
Fourth-generation grower and press owner in Al-Yamun, west of Jenin.
We pay every farmer 25 to 30% above the market price.
Mohammad Zein Al-Dein has farmed since he was a small child, on land in Al-Yamun, west of Jenin, that has passed through four generations of his family along with its press. He works it with his brothers and cousins. The ground is mountainous, so machines are no use there: every tree is tended and picked by hand. Walk his land and you'll find olives growing beside carob, fig and jujube. "The olive is life for us," he says. "A man looks after his olive tree more than he looks after his own son." He makes two of our oils: one picked early, one at full harvest.
